Call to Worship
While making the sign of the cross:
God, come to our assistance.
Lord, make haste to help us.
Glory to the Father and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning,
is now and will be forever. Amen. Alleluia!
Hymn
Phos Hilaron, “O Radiant Light” (1)
O radiant light,
O Sun divine
of God the Father’s deathless face,
O image of the light sublime,
That fills the heav’nly dwelling place.
O Son of God,
the source of life,
Praise is your due by night and day,
Our happy lips must raise the strain
of your esteemed and splendid name.
Lord, Jesus Christ
as daylight fades,
as shines the light of eventide,
We praise the Father with the Son,
the Spirit blest, and with them one.
PSALMODY
Psalm 141:1-9
Ant. O Lord, let my prayer rise before you like
incense, my hands like an evening offering.
O Lord, let my prayer rise before you like
incense, my hands like an evening offering.
Lord, I am calling: hasten to help me.
Listen to me as I cry to you.
Let my prayer rise before you like incense,
my hands like an evening offering.
O Lord, let my prayer rise before you like
incense, my hands like an evening offering.
Lord, set a guard at my mouth,
keep watch at the gate of my lips.
Let my heart not turn to things that are wrong,
to sharing the evil deeds done by the sinful.
No, I will never taste their delights.
O Lord, let my prayer rise before you like
incense, my hands like an evening offering.
The good may reprove me,
In kindness chastise me,
but the wicked shall never anoint my head.
Every day, I counter their malice with prayer.
O Lord, let my prayer rise before you like
incense, my hands like an evening offering.
To you, Lord my God, my eyes are turned:
In you I take refuge; do not forsake me.
Keep me safe from the traps they have set for me,
from the snares of those who do evil.
O Lord, let my prayer rise before you like
incense, my hands like an evening offering.
Praise to the Father, praise to the Son,
all praise to the life giving Spirit.
As it was, is now, and shall always be
for ages unending. Amen.
Ant. O Lord, let my prayer rise before you like
incense, my hands like an evening offering. (2)
Psalm Prayer
Lord,
From the rising of the sun to its setting,
your name is worthy of all praise.
Let our prayer come like incense before you.
May the lifting up of our hands
be as an evening sacrifice
acceptable to you,
Lord, our God.
Psalm 113
Ant. Learn from me, for I am gentle and humble of heart.
Praise, O servants of the Lord,
praise the name of the Lord!
May the name of the Lord be blessed
both now and for evermore!
From the rising of the sun to its setting
praised be the name of the Lord!
High above all nations is the Lord,
above the heavens God’s glory.
Who is like the Lord, our God,
who has risen on high to His throne
yet stoops from the heights to look down,
to look down upon heaven and earth?
From the dust God lifts up the lowly,
from misery God raises the poor
to set them in the company of princes,
yes, with the princes of God’s people.
To the childless wife God gives a home
and gladdens her heart with children.
Glory to Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit:
as it was in the beginning,
is now and will be forever. Amen.
Ant. Learn from me, for I am gentle and humble of heart.
Canticle
Revelation 4:11, 5:9,10,12
Ant. I am the Good Shepherd; I pasture my sheep, and I lay down my life for them.
O Lord our God, you are worthy
to receive glory and honor, and power.
For you have created all things;
by your will, they came to be and were made.
Worthy are you, O Lord,
to receive the scroll and break open its seals.
For you were slain;
and with your blood, you purchased for God
those of every race and tongue,
of every people and nation.
You made them a kingdom
and priests to serve our God,
and they shall reign on the earth.
Worthy is the Lamb that was slain
to receive power and riches,
wisdom and strength,
honor and glory and praise.
Glory to the Father and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning,
is now and will be forever. Amen.
Ant. I am the Good Shepherd; I pasture my sheep, and I lay down my life for them.
Reading
A Reading from the Letter of St. Paul to the Ephesians
(Ephesians 5:25b-27)
Christ loved the church. He gave himself up for her to make her holy, purifying her in the bath of water by the power of the word, to present to himself a glorious church, holy and immaculate, without stain or wrinkle or anything of that sort.
The Word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God.
Take a few moments to reflect on the reading.
Responsory
Christ has loved us, and in his blood, he has washed away our sins.
Christ has loved us, and in his blood, he has washed away our sins.
He has made us a kingdom and priests to serve God our Father.
And in his blood, he has washed away our sins.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
Christ has loved us, and in his blood, he has washed away our sins.
Gospel Canticle
Canticle of Mary
The Magnificat (3)
Luke 1:46-55
Ant. I have come to cast fire upon the earth; how I long to see the flame leap up.
While making the sign of the cross:
My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord,
My spirit sings to God, my saving God,
Who on this day, above all others, favored me
And raised me up, a light for all to see.
Through me, great deeds will God make manifest
And all the earth will come to call me blest.
Unbounded love and mercy sure will I proclaim
For all who know and praise God’s holy name.
God’s mighty arm, protector of the just,
Will guard the weak and raise them from the dust.
But mighty kings will swiftly fall from thrones corrupt.
The strong brought low, the lowly lifted up.
Soon will the poor and hungry of the earth
Be richly blest, be given greater worth.
And Israel, as once foretold to Abraham,
Will live in peace throughout the promised land.
All glory be to God, Creator blest,
To Jesus Christ, God’s love made manifest,
And to the Holy Spirit, gentle Comforter,
All glory be, both now and evermore.
Ant. I have come to cast fire upon the earth; how I long to see the flame leap up.
Intercessions
Brothers and Sisters, let us pray to the Lord Jesus, the refuge of our souls. Let us ask him:
Christ Jesus, fill us with light and truth.
Jesus, whose heart, when pierced by a lance, poured forth blood and water and gave birth to your spouse, the Church, cleanse and sanctify us.
Christ Jesus, fill us with light and truth.
Jesus, holy temple of God, slain by humanity and raised up again by the Father, make your Church the dwelling place of the Most High.
Christ Jesus, fill us with light and truth.
Jesus, King and center of all hearts, you love us and lead us to yourself with unending love and mercy. Renew your covenant with all.
Christ Jesus, fill us with light and truth.
Jesus, our peace and reconciliation, you unite all in the peace of the new creation and put enmity to death through the cross. Show us the path to the Father.
Christ Jesus, fill us with light and truth.
Jesus, our life and resurrection, you refresh the burdened and give rest to the weary. Draw all sinners to yourself.
Christ Jesus, fill us with light and truth.
For the sick who have asked us to accompany them with our prayers, that they may experience your merciful and healing touch today.
Please pray aloud the names of those who are sick or in need of healing.
Christ Jesus, fill us with light and truth.
Jesus, because you loved us with so great a love, you were obedient even to death on the cross.
Raise up again all who sleep in your peace.
Christ Jesus, fill us with light and truth. (4)
The Lord’s Prayer
And now let us pray with confidence as Christ our Lord asked:
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come;
thy will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation
but deliver us from evil.
Closing Prayer
Father,
We honor the heart of your Son
broken by humanity’s cruelty,
yet symbol of love’s triumph,
pledge of all that humanity is called to be.
Teach us to see Christ in the lives we touch,
to offer him living worship by love-filled service
to our sisters and brothers.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
Blessing
While making the sign of the cross:
May the Lord bless us,
protect us from all evil and
bring us to everlasting life.
Amen.
Salve Regina (5)
Salve, Regina,
Mater misericordiæ,
vita, dulcedo, et spes nostra, salve.
Ad te clamamus exsules filii Hevæ,
Ad te suspiramus, gementes et flentes
in hac lacrimarum valle.
Eia, ergo, advocata nostra, illos tuos
misericordes oculos ad nos converte;
Et Jesum, benedictum fructum ventris tui,
nobis post hoc exsilium ostende.
O clemens, O pia, O dulcis Virgo Maria.
Our Lady of Mount Carmel,
Pray for us.
Sant’Angelo,
Pray for us.
Let us spend this evening in peace.
Thanks be to God.
