Call to Worship
While making the sign of the cross:
God, come to our assistance.
Lord, make haste to help us.
Glory to the Father and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning,
is now and will be forever. Amen. Alleluia!
Hymn
Holy, Holy, Holy (1)
Holy, holy, holy!
Lord God Almighty
Early in the morning
Our song shall rise to Thee
Holy, holy, holy!
Merciful and mighty
God in three persons
Blessed Trinity!
Holy, holy, holy!
all the saints adore Thee
Casting down their golden crowns
around the glassy sea.
Cherubim and seraphim,
falling down before Thee
with songs of praise for all eternity.
Holy, holy, holy!
though the darkness hide Thee,
Though the eye of sinful men
Thy Glory may not see.
Only Thou art holy;
there is none beside Thee.
Perfect in power,
in love, and purity.
Holy, holy, holy!
Lord God Almighty
All Thy works shall praise Thy Name in earth and sky and sea
Holy, holy, holy,
merciful and mighty
God in three persons,
blessed Trinity!
PSALMODY
Psalm 141:1-9
Ant. O Lord, let my prayer rise before you like
incense, my hands like an evening offering.
O Lord, let my prayer rise before you like
incense, my hands like an evening offering.
Lord, I am calling: hasten to help me.
Listen to me as I cry to you.
Let my prayer rise before you like incense,
my hands like an evening offering.
O Lord, let my prayer rise before you like
incense, my hands like an evening offering.
Lord, set a guard at my mouth,
keep watch at the gate of my lips.
Let my heart not turn to things that are wrong,
to sharing the evil deeds done by the sinful.
No, I will never taste their delights.
O Lord, let my prayer rise before you like
incense, my hands like an evening offering.
The good may reprove me,
In kindness chastise me,
but the wicked shall never anoint my head.
Every day, I counter their malice with prayer.
O Lord, let my prayer rise before you like
incense, my hands like an evening offering.
To you, Lord my God, my eyes are turned:
In you I take refuge; do not forsake me.
Keep me safe from the traps they have set for me,
from the snares of those who do evil.
O Lord, let my prayer rise before you like
incense, my hands like an evening offering.
Praise to the Father, praise to the Son,
all praise to the life giving Spirit.
As it was, is now, and shall always be
for ages unending. Amen.
Ant. O Lord, let my prayer rise before you like
incense, my hands like an evening offering. (2)
Psalm Prayer
Lord,
From the rising of the sun to its setting,
your name is worthy of all praise.
Let our prayer come like incense before you.
May the lifting up of our hands
be as an evening sacrifice
acceptable to you,
Lord, our God.
Psalm 113
Ant. We will call him the peacemaker, and his throne shall stand firm for ever.
Praise, O servants of the Lord,
praise the name of the Lord!
May the name of the Lord be blessed
both now and for evermore!
From the rising of the sun to its setting
praised be the name of the Lord!
High above all nations is the Lord,
above the heavens God’s glory.
Who is like the Lord, our God,
who has risen on high to His throne
yet stoops from the heights to look down,
to look down upon heaven and earth?
From the dust God lifts up the lowly,
from misery God raises the poor
to set them in the company of princes,
yes, with the princes of God’s people.
To the childless wife God gives a home
and gladdens her heart with children.
Glory to Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit:
as it was in the beginning,
is now and will be forever. Amen.
Ant. We will call him the peacemaker, and his throne shall stand firm for ever.
Canticle
Revelation 4:11, 5:9,10,12
Ant. The authority and honor of a king has been given to Christ; all peoples, tribes, and nations will serve him for ever.
O Lord our God, you are worthy
to receive glory and honor, and power.
For you have created all things;
by your will, they came to be and were made.
Worthy are you, O Lord,
to receive the scroll and break open its seals.
For you were slain;
and with your blood, you purchased for God
those of every race and tongue,
of every people and nation.
You made them a kingdom
and priests to serve our God,
and they shall reign on the earth.
Worthy is the Lamb that was slain
to receive power and riches,
wisdom and strength,
honor and glory and praise.
Glory to the Father and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning,
is now and will be forever. Amen.
Ant. The authority and honor of a king has been given to Christ; all peoples, tribes, and nations will serve him for ever.
Reading
A reading from the Letter of St. Paul to the Ephesians
(Ephesians 1: 20-23)
God raised Christ from the dead and seated him at God’s right hand in heaven, high above every principality, power, virtue, and domination, and every name that can be given in this age or in the age to come. God has put all things under Christ’s feet and has made him, thus exalted, head of the church, which is his body: the fullness of him who fills the universe in all its parts.
The word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God.
Take a few moments to reflect on the reading.
Responsory
Yours is the splendor and the power;
yours is the kingdom, O Lord.
Yours is the splendor and the power;
yours is the kingdom, O Lord.
You will rule over all.
Yours is the kingdom, O Lord.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
Yours is the splendor and the power;
yours is the kingdom, O Lord.
Gospel Canticle
Canticle of Mary
The Magnificat (3)
Luke 1:46-55
Ant. The Lord God will give him the throne of David, his ancestor; he will rule in the house of Jacob for ever and his kingdom will have no end, alleluia.
While making the sign of the cross:
My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord,
My spirit sings to God, my saving God,
Who on this day, above all others, favored me
And raised me up, a light for all to see.
Through me, great deeds will God make manifest
And all the earth will come to call me blest.
Unbounded love and mercy sure will I proclaim
For all who know and praise God’s holy name.
God’s mighty arm, protector of the just,
Will guard the weak and raise them from the dust.
But mighty kings will swiftly fall from thrones corrupt.
The strong brought low, the lowly lifted up.
Soon will the poor and hungry of the earth
Be richly blest, be given greater worth.
And Israel, as once foretold to Abraham,
Will live in peace throughout the promised land.
All glory be to God, Creator blest,
To Jesus Christ, God’s love made manifest,
And to the Holy Spirit, gentle Comforter,
All glory be, both now and evermore.
Ant. The Lord God will give him the throne of David, his ancestor; he will rule in the house of Jacob for ever and his kingdom will have no end, alleluia.
Intercessions
Let us pray to Christ the King. He is the firstborn of all creation; all things exist in him.
Christ, Jesus, fill us with light and truth.
Christ, our king, and shepherd, gather your sheep from every land; give them pasture in green and fertile meadows.
Christ, Jesus, fill us with light and truth.
Christ, our leader and savior, form all men into your own people, heal the sick, seek out the lost, guard the strong, call back those who have wandered far away, strengthen those who waver, gather all your sheep into one flock.
Christ, Jesus, fill us with light and truth.
Judge of all ages, when you hand over your kingdom to the Father, place us at your right hand so that we may inherit the kingdom prepared for us from the beginning of the world.
Christ, Jesus, fill us with light and truth.
Prince of peace, break the weapons of war and inspire the nations with your peace.
Christ, Jesus, fill us with light and truth.
Christ, heir of all nations, gather humanity and all the good things of your creation into the kingdom of your Church, which your Father bestowed on you, so that the whole body of your people, united in the Holy Spirit, may acknowledge you as their head.
Christ, Jesus, fill us with light and truth.
For the sick who have asked us to accompany them with our prayers, that they may experience your merciful and healing touch today.
Please pray aloud the names of those who are sick or in need of healing.
Christ, Jesus, fill us with light and truth.
Christ, firstborn of the dead and firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep in death, bring all who have died to the glory of the resurrection.
Christ, Jesus, fill us with light and truth. (4)
The Lord’s Prayer
And now let us pray with confidence as Christ our Lord asked:
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come;
thy will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation
but deliver us from evil.
Closing Prayer
Almighty and merciful God,
you break the power of evil
and make all things new
in your Son Jesus Christ, the King of the universe.
May all in heaven and earth acclaim your glory
and never cease to praise you.
We ask this through our Lord, Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the holy spirit,
God, for ever and ever.
Amen.
Blessing
While making the sign of the cross:
May the Lord bless us,
protect us from all evil and
bring us to everlasting life.
Amen.
Salve Regina (4)
Salve, Regina, Mater misericordiæ,
vita, dulcedo, et spes nostra, salve.
Ad te clamamus exsules filii Hevæ,
Ad te suspiramus, gementes et flentes
in hac lacrimarum valle.
Eia, ergo, advocata nostra, illos tuos
misericordes oculos ad nos converte;
Et Jesum, benedictum fructum ventris tui,
nobis post hoc exsilium ostende.
O clemens, O pia, O dulcis Virgo Maria.
Our Lady of Mount Carmel,
Pray for us.
Sant’Angelo,
Pray for us.
Let us spend this evening in peace.
Thanks be to God.
