Call to Worship

While making the sign of the cross:

God, come to our assistance.
Lord, make haste to help us.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning,
is now and will be forever. Amen.

Hymn

I, the Lord (1)

I, the Lord, am with you,
always by your side.
Come and take my hand,
for I will lead you home.
Follow me.
Follow me.

You shall have new life
and live it to the full.
Turn your sorrow into joy,
for life has just begun.

I, the Lord, am with you,
always by your side.
Come and take my hand,
for I will lead you home.
Follow me.
Follow me.

Follow me.
Follow me.

Psalmody

Psalm 141

Ant. Like burning incense, O Lord, let my prayer rise up to you.

I have called to you, O Lord; hasten to help me!
Hear my voice when I cry to you.
Let my prayer arise before you like incense,
the raising of my hands like an evening oblation.

Set, O Lord, a guard over my mouth;
keep watch at the door of my lips!
Do not turn my heart to things that are wrong,
to evil deeds with those who are sinners.

Never allow me to share in their feasting.
If the good strike or reprove me it is kindness;
but let the oil of the wicked not anoint my head.
Let my prayer be ever against their malice.

Their princes were thrown down by the side of the rock:
then they understood that my words were kind.
As a millstone is shattered to pieces on the ground,
so their bones were strewn at the mouth of the grave.

To you, Lord God, my eyes are turned:
In you I take refuge; spare my soul!
From the trap they have laid for me keep me safe:
keep me from the snares of those who do evil.

Glory to Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit:
as it was in the beginning,
is now and will be forever. Amen.

Ant. Like burning incense, O Lord, let my prayer rise up to you.

Psalm Prayer

Lord, from the rising of the sun to its setting,
your name is worthy of all praise.
Let our prayer come like incense before you.
May the lifting up of our hands be as an evening sacrifice acceptable to you, Lord, our God.

Psalm 130

Ant. If you kept a record of our sins, Lord, who could escape condemnation?

From the depths I call to you,
Lord, hear my cry.
Catch the sound of my voice
Raised up, pleading.

If you record our sins,
Lord, who could survive?
But because you forgive
We stand in awe.

I trust in God’s word,
I trust in the Lord.
More than sentries for dawn
I watch for the Lord.

More then sentries for dawn
Let Israel watch.
The Lord will bring mercy and grant full pardon.
The Lord will free Israel from all its sins.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning,
is now and will be forever. Amen.

Ant. If you kept a record of our sins, Lord, who could escape condemnation?

Canticle
Philippians 2:6-11

Ant. As the Father raises the dead and gives them life, so the Son gives life to whom He wills.

Though He was in the form of God,
Jesus did not deem equality with God
something to be grasped at.

Rather, He emptied Himself
and took the form of a slave
being born in human likeness.

He was known to be of human estate,
and it was thus that He humbled Himself,
obediently accepting even death, death on a cross!

Because of this,
God highly exalted Him and bestowed on Him
a name above every other name,

so that at Jesus’ name every knee must bend
in the heavens, on the earth,
and under the earth,

and every tongue proclaim
to the glory of God the Father:
JESUS CHRIST IS LORD!

Glory to the Father and to the Son
And to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning,
Is now, and will be forever.
Amen.

Ant. As the Father raises the dead and gives them life, so the Son gives life to whom He wills.

Reading

A reading from the First Letter of St. Paul to the Corinthians
(I Corinthians 15:55-57)

O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?
But thanks be to God, who has given us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

The word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God.

Take a few moments to reflect on the reading.

Responsory

In you, Lord, is our hope. We shall never hope in vain.
In you, Lord, is our hope. We shall never hope in vain.
We shall dance and rejoice in your mercy.
We shall never hope in vain.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
In you, Lord, is our hope. We shall never hope in vain.

Gospel Canticle
Canticle of Mary

Holy is his Name (2)
Luke 1:46-55

Ant. All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me, I shall not turn away.

While making the sign of the cross:

My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord,
and my spirit exalts in God, my Savior.
For he has looked with mercy on my lowliness,
and my name will be forever exalted.
For the mighty God has done great things for me,
and his mercy will reach from age to age.

And holy, holy,
holy is his name.

He has mercy in ev’ry generation.
He has revealed his power and his glory.
He has cast down the mighty in their arrogance
and has lifted up the meek and the lowly.
He has come to help his servant Israel;
he remembers his promise to our ancestors.

And holy, holy,
holy is his name.

And holy, holy,
holy is his name.

Ant. All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me, I shall not turn away.

Intercessions

We acknowledge Christ the Lord through whom we hope that our lowly bodies will be made like his in glory, and we say:
Hear, O Lord, enfold us in your mercy.

Christ, Son of the living God, who raised up Lazarus, your friend, from the dead, raise up to life and glory the dead whom you have redeemed by your precious blood.
Hear, O Lord, enfold us in your mercy.

Christ, consoler of those who mourn, you dried the tears of the family of Lazarus, of the widow’s son, and the daughter of Jairus, comfort those who mourn for the dead.
Hear, O Lord, enfold us in your mercy.

Christ, Savior, destroy the reign of sin in our earthly bodies, so that just as through sin we deserved punishment, so through you we may gain eternal life.
Hear, O Lord, enfold us in your mercy.

Christ, Redeemer, look on those who have no hope because they do not know you; may they receive faith in the resurrection and in the life of the world to come.
Hear, O Lord, enfold us in your mercy.

You revealed yourself to the blind man who begged for light of his eyes; show your face to the dead who are still deprived of your light.
Hear, O Lord, enfold us in your mercy.

For the sick who have asked us to accompany them with our prayers, that they may experience your merciful and healing touch today.

Please pray aloud the names of those who are sick or in need of healing.

Hear, O Lord, enfold us in your mercy.

When at last our earthly home is dissolved, give us a home, not of earthly making, but built of eternity in heaven.
Hear, O Lord, enfold us in your mercy. (3)

The Lord’s Prayer

And now let us pray with confidence as Christ our Lord asked:
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come;
thy will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation
but deliver us from evil.

Closing Prayer

Lord,
you are the glory of those who serve you.
Look lovingly on our departed sisters and brothers,
united in following Christ and his Mother
by the waters of baptism and the bonds of Carmel.
In your mercy, grant them everlasting sight of you,
their Creator and Redeemer.
We ask this through Christ, our Lord.

Amen.

Blessing

While making the sign of the cross:

May the Lord bless us,
protect us from all evil and
bring us to everlasting life.
Amen.

Salve Regina
(4)

Salve, Regina, Mater misericordiæ,
vita, dulcedo, et spes nostra, salve.
Ad te clamamus exsules filii Hevæ,
Ad te suspiramus, gementes et flentes
in hac lacrimarum valle.

Eia, ergo, advocata nostra, illos tuos
misericordes oculos ad nos converte;
Et Jesum, benedictum fructum ventris tui,
nobis post hoc exsilium ostende.
O clemens, O pia, O dulcis Virgo Maria.
