Call to Worship
While making the sign of the cross:
God, come to our assistance.
Lord, make haste to help us.
Glory to the Father and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning,
is now and will be forever. Amen. Alleluia!
Hymn
In Christ Alone (1)
In Christ alone, my hope is found,
he is my light, my strength, my song;
this cornerstone, this solid ground,
firm through the fiercest drought and storm.
What heights of love, what depths of peace,
when fears are stilled, when strivings cease.
My comforter, my all in all,
here in the love of Christ, I stand.
There in the ground his body lay,
light of the world, by darkness slain.
Then, bursting forth in glorious day,
up from the grave he rose again!
And as he stands in victory,
sin’s curse has lost its grip on me.
for I am his and he is mine,
bought with the precious blood of Christ.
No guilt in life, no fear in death,
this is the pow’r of Christ in me;
from life’s first cry to final breath,
Jesus commands my destiny.
No pow’r of hell, no human scheme,
can ever pluck me from his hand;
For I am His and He is mine-
Bought with the precious blood of Christ.
No-one can pluck me from his hand
in Christ alone, I stand.
PSALMODY
Psalm 141:1-9
Ant. O Lord, let my prayer rise before you like
incense, my hands like an evening offering.
O Lord, let my prayer rise before you like
incense, my hands like an evening offering.
Lord, I am calling: hasten to help me.
Listen to me as I cry to you.
Let my prayer rise before you like incense,
my hands like an evening offering.
O Lord, let my prayer rise before you like
incense, my hands like an evening offering.
Lord, set a guard at my mouth,
keep watch at the gate of my lips.
Let my heart not turn to things that are wrong,
to sharing the evil deeds done by the sinful.
No, I will never taste their delights.
O Lord, let my prayer rise before you like
incense, my hands like an evening offering.
The good may reprove me,
In kindness chastise me,
but the wicked shall never anoint my head.
Every day, I counter their malice with prayer.
O Lord, let my prayer rise before you like
incense, my hands like an evening offering.
To you, Lord my God, my eyes are turned:
In you I take refuge; do not forsake me.
Keep me safe from the traps they have set for me,
from the snares of those who do evil.
O Lord, let my prayer rise before you like
incense, my hands like an evening offering.
Praise to the Father, praise to the Son,
all praise to the life giving Spirit.
As it was, is now, and shall always be
for ages unending. Amen.
Ant. O Lord, let my prayer rise before you like
incense, my hands like an evening offering. (2)
Psalm Prayer
Lord,
From the rising of the sun to its setting,
your name is worthy of all praise.
Let our prayer come like incense before you.
May the lifting up of our hands
be as an evening sacrifice
acceptable to you,
Lord, our God.
Psalm 127
Ant. Behold, the dwelling of God is with humans, and God will make a home among them.
If the Lord does not build the house,
in vain do its builders labor;
if the Lord does not watch over the city,
in vain does the watch 'keep vigil.
In vain is your earlier rising,
your going later to rest,
you who toil for the bread you eat:
when the Lord pours gifts on the beloved while they slumber.
Truly children are a gift from the Lord,
a blessing, the fruit of the womb.
Indeed the children of youth
are like arrows in the hand of a warrior.
O the happiness of those
who have filled their quivers with these arrows!
They will have no cause for shame
when they dispute with their foes in the gateways.
Glory to Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit:
as it was in the beginning,
is now and will be forever. Amen.
Ant. Behold, the dwelling of God is with humans, and God will make a home among them.
Canticle
Colossians 1:12-20
Ant. I will make up in my body whatever is lacking in the sufferings of Christ for the sake of his body, the Church.
Let us give thanks to the Father for having made you worthy
to share the lot of the saints in light.
God rescued us from the power of darkness
and brought us into the kingdom of the beloved Son.
Through Him we have redemption,
the forgiveness of our sins.
He is the image of the invisible God,
the first-born of all creatures.
In Him everything in heaven and on earth was created,
things visible and invisible.
All were created through Him;
all were created for Him.
He is before all else that is.
In Him everything continues in being.
It is He who is head of the body, the church!
He who is the beginning,
the first born of the dead,
so that primacy may be His in everything.
It pleased God to make absolute fullness reside in Him
and, by means of Him, to reconcile everything in His person,
both on earth and in the heavens,
making peace through the blood of His cross.
Glory to Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit:
as it was in the beginning,
is now and will be forever. Amen
Ant. I will make up in my body whatever is lacking in the sufferings of Christ for the sake of his body, the Church.
Reading
A reading from the letter of Jude
(Jude 20-21)
You, my dear friends, must use your most holy faith as your foundation and build on that, praying in the Holy Spirit; keep yourselves within the love of God and wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to give you eternal life.
The Word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God.
Take a few moments to reflect on the reading.
Responsory
You are the temple of the living God.
You are the temple of the living God.
And the Spirit of God dwells in you,
the temple of the living God.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
You are the temple of the living God.
Gospel Canticle
Canticle of Mary
The Magnificat (3)
Ant. Do not let your hearts be troubled. There are many mansions in my Father's house, and I am going now to prepare a place for you.
While making the sign of the cross:
My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord,
My spirit sings to God, my saving God,
Who on this day above all others favored me
And raised me up, a light for all to see.
Through me great deeds will God make manifest
And all the earth will come to call me blest.
Unbounded love and mercy sure will I proclaim
For all who know and praise God’s holy name.
God’s mighty arm, protector of the just,
Will guard the weak and raise them from the dust.
But mighty kings will swiftly fall from thrones corrupt.
The strong brought low, the lowly lifted up.
Soon will the poor and hungry of the earth
Be richly blest, be given greater worth.
And Israel, as once foretold to Abraham,
Will live in peace throughout the promised land.
All glory be to God, Creator blest,
To Jesus Christ, God’s love made manifest,
And to the Holy Spirit, gentle Comforter,
All glory be, both now and evermore.
Ant. Do not let your hearts be troubled. There are many mansions in my Father's house, and I am going now to prepare a place for you.
Intercessions
Christ loved his Church and gave his life for her that she might be holy: let us pray to Christ that his Church may be holy and spotless in all her members:
Christ Jesus, fill us with light and truth.
You are the head of the Church and the source of all her grace; may all your people be joined to you in faith and love, and realize that they are the living and holy members of your body.
Christ Jesus, fill us with light and truth.
You founded the Church on Peter and the apostles and through them you teach us the truth and lead us in green pastures; enlighten and guide those you have placed over your Church, and confirm our faith so that in them we may hear your voice leading us to life.
Christ Jesus, fill us with light and truth.
You choose some to announce the Good News by teaching, baptizing, calling to repentance, and offering in your memory the Eucharistic Sacrifice; as the harvest is great, and the laborers few, send laborers into your harvest.
Christ Jesus, fill us with light and truth.
You choose some of your friends to follow you more closely in your poverty, your chastity and your obedience, for the building up of the Church; with Mary as their Mother and teacher, may all religious cling to you and show forth your life within them as they serve the Church.
Christ Jesus, fill us with light and truth.
You made your people one body and one spirit in the unity of faith and baptism; may all whom you have redeemed preserve the unity of the Spirit through the bonds of peace.
Christ Jesus, fill us with light and truth.
For the sick who have asked us to accompany them with our prayers, that they may experience your merciful and healing touch today.
Please pray aloud the names of those who are sick or in need of healing.
Christ Jesus, fill us with light and truth.
You died for our redemption and rose so that we could have life; may all who have died in your love and await the revelation of your glory rejoice at the eternal banquet in the company of your saints.
Christ Jesus, fill us with light and truth. (4)
The Lord’s Prayer
And now let us pray with confidence as Christ our Lord asked:
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come;
thy will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation
but deliver us from evil.
Closing Prayer
Father,
By your Spirit
you raised up St. Teresa of Jesus
to show your Church
the way to perfection.
May her inspired teaching awaken in us a longing for true holiness.
Grant this through Christ, your son,
who lives and reigns with you
in the unity of the holy spirit,
God, for ever and ever.
Amen.
Blessing
While making the sign of the cross:
May the Lord bless us,
protect us from all evil and
bring us to everlasting life.
Amen.
Salve Regina (5)
Salve, Regina, Mater misericordiæ,
vita, dulcedo, et spes nostra, salve.
Ad te clamamus exsules filii Hevæ,
Ad te suspiramus, gementes et flentes
in hac lacrimarum valle.
Eia, ergo, advocata nostra, illos tuos
misericordes oculos ad nos converte;
Et Jesum, benedictum fructum ventris tui,
nobis post hoc exsilium ostende.
O clemens, O pia, O dulcis Virgo Maria.
Our Lady of Mount Carmel,
Pray for us.
St. Teresa of Jesus,
Pray for us.
Sant’Angelo,
Pray for us.
Let us spend this evening in peace.
Thanks be to God.
