Call to Worship

While making the sign of the cross:

God, come to our assistance.
Lord, make haste to help us.

Glory to the Father and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning,
is now and will be forever. Amen.

Hymn

Open my Eyes (1)

Open my eyes, Lord.
Help me to see Your face.
Open my eyes, Lord.
Help me to see.

Open my ears, Lord.
Help me to hear Your voice.
Open my ears, Lord.
Help me to hear.

Open my heart, Lord.
Help me to love like You.
Open my heart, Lord.
Help me to love.

And the first shall be last.
And our eyes are opened.
And we'll hear like never before.
And we'll speak in new ways.
And we'll see God's face in places we've never known.

I live within You.
Deep in Your heart, oh love.
I live within You.
Rest now in me.

PSALMODY

Psalm 141:1-9

Ant. Like burning incense, O Lord, let my prayer rise up to you.

I have called to you, O Lord; hasten to help me!
Hear my voice when I cry to you.
Let my prayer arise before you like incense,
the raising of my hands like an evening oblation.

Set, O Lord, a guard over my mouth;
keep watch at the door of my lips!
Do not turn my heart to things that are wrong,
to evil deeds with those who are sinners.

Never allow me to share in their feasting.
If the good strike or reprove me, it is kindness;
but let the oil of the wicked not anoint my head.
Let my prayer be ever against their malice.

Their princes were thrown down by the side of the rock:
Then, they understood that my words were kind.
As a millstone is shattered to pieces on the ground,
so their bones were strewn at the mouth of the grave.

To you, Lord God, my eyes are turned:
In you, I take refuge; spare my soul!
From the trap they have laid for me, keep me safe:
keep me from the snares of those who do evil.

Glory to Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit:
as it was in the beginning,
is now and will be forever. Amen

Ant. Like burning incense, O Lord, let my prayer rise up to you.

Psalm Prayer

Lord,
From the rising of the sun to its setting,
your name is worthy of all praise.
Let our prayer come like incense before you.
May the lifting up of our hands
be as an evening sacrifice
acceptable to you,
Lord, our God.

Psalm 46

Ant. The mighty Lord is with us; the God of Jacob is our stronghold.

God is for us a refuge and strength,
a helper close at hand, in time of distress:
so we shall not fear though the earth should rock,
though the mountains fall into the depths of the sea,
even though its waters rage and foam,
even though the mountains be shaken by its waves.

The Lord of hosts is with us:
the God of Jacob is our stronghold.

The waters of a river give joy to God’s city,
the holy place where the Most High dwells.
God is within; it cannot be shaken;
God will help it at the dawning of day.
Nations are in tumult; kingdoms are shaken:
God’s voice thunders; the earth shrinks away.

The Lord of hosts is with us:
the God of Jacob is our stronghold.

Come, consider the works of the Lord,
the redoubtable deeds done on the earth.
God puts an end to wars over all the earth,
breaks the bow and snaps the spear.
God burns the shields with fire.
“Be still and know that I am God,
supreme among the nations, supreme on the earth!”

The Lord of hosts is with us:
the God of Jacob is our stronghold.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning,
is now and will be forever.
Amen.

Ant. House of Israel, bless the Lord! Sing psalms to God, for he is merciful.

Canticle
Revelation 15:3-4

Ant. All nations will come and worship before you, O Lord.

Mighty and wonderful are your works,
Lord God Almighty!
Righteous and true are your ways,
O King of the nations!

Who would dare refuse you honor
or the glory due your name, O Lord?
Since you alone are holy, all nations shall come
and worship in your presence.

Your mighty deeds are clearly seen.

Glory to Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit:
as it was in the beginning,
is now and will be forever. Amen.

Ant. All nations will come and worship before you, O Lord.

Reading

A Reading from the letter of James
(James 5:16, 19-20)

Declare your sins to one another, and pray for one another that you may find healing. The fervent petition of a holy person is powerful indeed. My sisters and brothers, the case may arise among you of some straying from the truth and another bringing him back. Remember this: the person who brings a sinner back from his way will save his soul from death and cancel a multitude of sins.

The word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God.

Take a few moments to reflect on the reading.

Responsory

To you, O Lord, I make my prayer for mercy.
To you, O Lord, I make my prayer for mercy.
Heal my soul, for I have sinned against you.
I make my prayer for mercy.
Glory to the Father and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit.
To you, O Lord, I make my prayer for mercy.

Gospel Canticle
Canticle of Mary

Luke 1:46-55
Ant.
Even if you have no faith in my words, you should at least believe the evidence of the works I do in God’s name.

While making the sign of the cross:

My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord,
my spirit rejoices in God my Savior
for God has looked with favor on this lowly servant.

From this day all generations will call me blessed:
the Almighty has done great things for me,
and holy is God’s Name.

God has mercy on those who fear him
in every generation.
God has shown the strength of his arm
and has scattered the proud in their conceit.

God has cast down the mighty from their thrones
and has lifted up the lowly.
God has filled the hungry with good things
and has sent the rich away empty.

God has come to the help of his servant Israel,
for God has remembered the promise of mercy,
the promise made to our ancestors,
to Abraham and his children forever.

Glory to Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit:
as it was in the beginning,
is now and will be forever. Amen.

Ant. Even if you have no faith in my words, you should at least believe the evidence of the works I do in God’s name.

Intercessions

The Lord Jesus sanctified his people with his blood.
Let us cry out to him:
Hear, O Lord, enfold us in your mercy.

Loving Redeemer, through your passion teach us self-denial, strengthen us against evil and adversity, and increase our hope, and so make us ready to celebrate your resurrection.
Cry out for God’s mercy:
Hear, O Lord, enfold us in your mercy.

Grant that Christians, as your prophets, may make you known in every place and bear witness to you with living faith and hope and love.
Cry out for God’s mercy:
Hear, O Lord, enfold us in your mercy.

Give your strength to all in distress, and help us to raise them up through our loving concern.
Cry out for God’s mercy:
Hear, O Lord, enfold us in your mercy.

Teach the faithful to see your passion in their sufferings and show to others your power to save.
Cry out for God’s mercy:
Hear, O Lord, enfold us in your mercy.

For the sick who have asked us to accompany them with our prayers, that they may experience your merciful and healing touch today.

Please pray aloud the names of those who are sick or in need of healing.
Hear, O Lord, enfold us in your mercy.

Author of life, remember those who have passed from this world. Grant them the glory of your risen life.
Cry out for God’s mercy:
Hear, O Lord, enfold us in your mercy. (2)

The Lord’s Prayer

And now let us pray with confidence as Christ our Lord asked:
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come;
thy will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation
but deliver us from evil.

Closing Prayer

Lord,
Grant us your forgiveness and set us free from our enslavement to sin. We ask this through our Lord, Jesus Christ, your son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever.
Amen.

Blessing

While making the sign of the cross:

May the Lord bless us,
protect us from all evil and
bring us to everlasting life.
Amen.
