Call to Worship

While making the sign of the cross:

God, come to our assistance.
Lord, make haste to help us.

Glory to the Father and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning,
is now and will be forever. Amen. Alleluia!

Hymn

Beatitudes (1)

Blest are you, the poor who trust
the Father with your lives.
For within your heart is born
the kingdom of the Lord.
Blest are you the sorrowing,
who know your Father wise
For within your heart is born
the kingdom of the Lord.

Blest are you, the lowly ones,
who know your need to share.
For within your heart is born
the kingdom of the Lord.
Blest are you whose searching souls
will draw you to God’s care.
For within your heart is born
the kingdom of the Lord.

Let your light shine for all the world to see
The brightness of your life within,
the peace that sets you free.
Let your light shine to fill your nights and days;
All will see the deeds you do
and give your father praise.

Blest are you whose mercy shows
the Father’s love to all.
For within your heart is born
the kingdom of the Lord.
Blest are you the pure in heart,
who live the Father’s call.
For within your heart is born
the kingdom of the Lord.

Blest are you who work for peace
among the Father’s own,
For within your heart is born
the kingdom of the Lord.
Blest are you who suffer hate
to prepare the day to come,
For within your heart is born
the kingdom of the Lord.

Let your light shine for all the world to see
The brightness of your life within,
the peace that sets you free.
Let your light shine to fill your nights and days;
All will see the deeds you do
and give your father praise.

Let your light shine for all the world to see
The brightness of your life within,
the peace that sets you free.
Let your light shine to fill your nights and days;
All will see the deeds you do
and give your father praise.

PSALMODY

Psalm 141:1-9

Ant. O Lord, let my prayer rise before you like
incense, my hands like an evening offering.

O Lord, let my prayer rise before you like
incense, my hands like an evening offering.

Lord, I am calling: hasten to help me.
Listen to me as I cry to you.
Let my prayer rise before you like incense,
my hands like an evening offering.

O Lord, let my prayer rise before you like
incense, my hands like an evening offering.

Lord, set a guard at my mouth,
keep watch at the gate of my lips.
Let my heart not turn to things that are wrong,
to sharing the evil deeds done by the sinful.
No, I will never taste their delights.

O Lord, let my prayer rise before you like
incense, my hands like an evening offering.

The good may reprove me,
In kindness chastise me,
but the wicked shall never anoint my head.
Every day, I counter their malice with prayer.

O Lord, let my prayer rise before you like
incense, my hands like an evening offering.

To you, Lord my God, my eyes are turned:
In you I take refuge; do not forsake me.
Keep me safe from the traps they have set for me,
from the snares of those who do evil.

O Lord, let my prayer rise before you like
incense, my hands like an evening offering.

Praise to the Father, praise to the Son,
all praise to the life giving Spirit.
As it was, is now, and shall always be
for ages unending. Amen.

Ant. O Lord, let my prayer rise before you like
incense, my hands like an evening offering.

Psalm Prayer

Lord,
From the rising of the sun to its setting,
your name is worthy of all praise.
Let our prayer come like incense before you.
May the lifting up of our hands
be as an evening sacrifice
acceptable to you,
Lord, our God.

Psalm 116

Ant. I shall take into my hand the saving chalice and invoke the name of the Lord.

I trusted, even when I said:
“I am sorely afflicted,”
and when I said in my alarm:

“No one can be trusted.”

How can I repay the Lord
for his goodness to me?
The cup of salvation I will raise;
I will call on the Lord’s name.

My vows to the Lord I will fulfill
before all his people.
O precious in the eyes of the Lord
is the death of his faithful.

Your servant, Lord, your servant am I;
you have loosened my bonds.
A thanksgiving sacrifice I make;
I will call on the Lord’s name.

My vows to the Lord I will fulfill
before all his people,
in the courts of the house of the Lord,
in your midst, O Jerusalem.

Glory to Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit:
as it was in the beginning,
is now and will be forever. Amen

Ant. I shall take into my hand the saving chalice and invoke the name of the Lord.

Canticle
Philippians 2:6-11

Ant. The Lord Jesus humbled himself, and God exalted him for ever.

Though He was in the form of God,
Jesus did not deem equality with God
something to be grasped at.

Rather, He emptied Himself
and took the form of a slave
being born in human likeness.

He was known to be of human estate,
and it was thus that He humbled Himself,
obediently accepting even death,
death on a cross!

Because of this,
God highly exalted Him
and bestowed on Him a name above every other name,

so that at Jesus’ name every knee must bend
in the heavens, on the earth,
and under the earth,

and every tongue proclaim
to the glory of God the Father:
JESUS CHRIST IS LORD!

Glory to the Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning,
is now and will be forever. Amen.

Ant. The Lord Jesus humbled himself, and God exalted him for ever.

Reading

A Reading from the Letter to the Hebrews
(Hebrews 13:20-21)

May the God of peace, who brought up from the dead the great shepherd of the sheep by the blood of the eternal covenant, Jesus our Lord, furnish you with all that is good, that you may do his will. May God carry out in you what is pleasing to him through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.

The word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God.

Take a few moments to reflect on the reading.

Responsory

Our hearts are filled with wonder as we contemplate your works, O Lord.
Our hearts are filled with wonder as we contemplate your works, O Lord.
We praise the wisdom which wrought them all,
as we contemplate your works, O Lord.
Glory to the Father and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
Our hearts are filled with wonder as we contemplate your works, O Lord.

Gospel Canticle
Canticle of Mary

The Magnificat (3)
Luke 1:46-55
Ant. He will bring those evil men to an evil end and entrust his vineyard to other tenants who will give him the harvest at the proper season.

While making the sign of the cross:

My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord,
My spirit sings to God, my saving God,
Who on this day, above all others, favored me
And raised me up, a light for all to see.

Through me, great deeds will God make manifest
And all the earth will come to call me blest.
Unbounded love and mercy sure will I proclaim
For all who know and praise God’s holy name.

God’s mighty arm, protector of the just,
Will guard the weak and raise them from the dust.
But mighty kings will swiftly fall from thrones corrupt.
The strong brought low, the lowly lifted up.

Soon will the poor and hungry of the earth
Be richly blest, be given greater worth.
And Israel, as once foretold to Abraham,
Will live in peace throughout the promised land.

All glory be to God, Creator blest,
To Jesus Christ, God’s love made manifest,
And to the Holy Spirit, gentle Comforter,
All glory be, both now and evermore.

Ant. He will bring those evil men to an evil end and entrust his vineyard to other tenants who will give him the harvest at the proper season.

Intercessions

Christ had compassion on the hungry and performed a miracle of love for them. Mindful of this, let us pray:
Christ, Jesus, fill us with light and truth.

Lord, we recognize that all the favors we have received today come through your generosity. Do not let them return to you empty, but let them bear fruit.
Christ, Jesus, fill us with light and truth.

Light and salvation of all nations, protect the missionaries you have sent into the world; enkindle in them the fire of your Spirit.
Christ, Jesus, fill us with light and truth.

Grant that humanity may shape the world in keeping with human dignity and respond generously to the needs of our time.
Christ, Jesus, fill us with light and truth.

Healer of body and spirit, comfort the sick, and be present to the dying. In your mercy, visit and refresh us.
Christ, Jesus, fill us with light and truth.

For the sick who have asked us to accompany them with our prayers, that they may experience your merciful and healing touch today.

Please pray aloud the names of those who are sick or in need of healing.

Christ, Jesus, fill us with light and truth.

May the faithful departed be numbered among the saints,
whose names are in the Book of Life.

Christ, Jesus, fill us with light and truth.

The Lord’s Prayer

And now let us pray with confidence as Christ our Lord asked:
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come;
thy will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation
but deliver us from evil.

Closing Prayer

Father,
your love for us
surpasses all our hopes and desires.
Forgive our failings,
keep us in your peace
and lead us in the way of salvation.
We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God, for ever and ever.

Amen.

Blessing

While making the sign of the cross:

May the Lord bless us,
protect us from all evil and
bring us to everlasting life.
Amen.

Salve Regina (5)

Salve, Regina, Mater misericordiæ,
vita, dulcedo, et spes nostra, salve.
Ad te clamamus exsules filii Hevæ,
Ad te suspiramus, gementes et flentes
in hac lacrimarum valle.

Eia, ergo, advocata nostra, illos tuos
misericordes oculos ad nos converte;
Et Jesum, benedictum fructum ventris tui,
nobis post hoc exsilium ostende.
O clemens, O pia, O dulcis Virgo Maria.

Our Lady of Mount Carmel,
Pray for us.
Sant’Angelo,
Pray for us.

Let us spend this evening in peace.
Thanks be to God.
