Call to Worship

While making the sign of the cross:

God, come to our assistance.
Lord, make haste to help us.

Glory to the Father and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning,
is now and will be forever. Amen. Alleluia!

Hymn

I, the Lord (1)

I, the Lord, am with you,
always by your side.
Come and take my hand,
for I will lead you home.
Follow me.
Follow me.

I am the resurrection,
and I am the life; if you believe in me,
you shall live forever.

I, the Lord, am with you,
always by your side.
Come and take my hand,
for I will lead you home.
Follow me.
Follow me.

You shall have new life
and live it to the full.
Turn your sorrow into joy,
for life has just begun.

I, the Lord, am with you,
always by your side.
Come and take my hand,
for I will lead you home.

PSALMODY
Psalm 141:1-9

Ant. O Lord, let my prayer rise before you like incense, my hands like an evening offering.

O Lord, let my prayer rise before you like
incense, my hands like an evening offering.

Lord, I am calling: hasten to help me.
Listen to me as I cry to you.
Let my prayer rise before you like incense,
my hands like an evening offering.

O Lord, let my prayer rise before you like
incense, my hands like an evening offering.

Lord, set a guard at my mouth,
keep watch at the gate of my lips.
Let my heart not turn to things that are wrong,
to sharing the evil deeds done by the sinful.
No, I will never taste their delights.

O Lord, let my prayer rise before you like
incense, my hands like an evening offering.

The good may reprove me,
In kindness chastise me,
but the wicked shall never anoint my head.
Every day, I counter their malice with prayer.

O Lord, let my prayer rise before you like
incense, my hands like an evening offering.

To you, Lord my God, my eyes are turned:
In you I take refuge; do not forsake me.
Keep me safe from the traps they have set for me,
from the snares of those who do evil.

O Lord, let my prayer rise before you like
incense, my hands like an evening offering.

Praise to the Father, praise to the Son,
all praise to the life giving Spirit.
As it was, is now, and shall always be
for ages unending. Amen.

Ant. O Lord, let my prayer rise before you like incense, my hands like an evening offering. (2)

Psalm Prayer

Lord,
From the rising of the sun to its setting,
Your name is worthy of all praise.
Let our prayer come like incense before you.
May the lifting up of our hands
be as an evening sacrifice
acceptable to you,
Lord, our God.

Psalm 47

Ant. God ascends to shouts of joy, the Lord to the blast of trumpets, alleluia.

All peoples, clap your hands;
cry to God with shouts of joy!
For the Lord, the Most High, we must fear,
great King over all the earth.

God subdues peoples under us
and nations under our feet.
Our inheritance, our glory, is from God,
given to Jacob out of love.

God goes up with shouts of joy;
the Lord goes up with trumpet blast.
Sing praise for God, sing praise,
sing praise to our king, sing praise.

God is King of all the earth.
Sing praise with all your skill.
God is king over the nations;
God reigns on the holy throne.

The princes of the people are assembled
with the people of Abraham’s God.
The rulers of the earth belong to God,
to God who reigns over all.

Glory to the Father and to the Son
and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning
is now and will be forever. Amen.

Ant. God ascends to shouts of joy, the Lord to the blast of trumpets, alleluia.

CANTICLE
Revelation 11: 17-18; 12:10b-12a

Ant. Now the Son of Man has been glorified and God has been glorified in him, alleluia.

We praise you, the Lord God Almighty,
Who is and who was.
You have assumed your great power;
You have begun your reign.

The nations have raged in anger, but then came your day of wrath
And the moment to judge the dead: the time to reward your servants the prophets
and the holy ones who revere you,
the great and the small alike.

Now have salvation and power come,
the reign of our God and the authority of the Anointed One.
For the accuser of our brothers and sisters is cast out,
who night and day accused them before God.

They defeated him by the blood of the Lamb
and by the word of their testimony;
Love for life did not deter them from death.
So rejoice, you heavens, and you that dwell therein!

Glory to the Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning,
is now and will be forever. Amen.

Ant. Now the Son of Man has been glorified and God has been glorified in him, alleluia.

Reading

A Reading from the First Letter of St. Peter
(I Peter 3:18, 21-22)

Brothers and Sisters: The reason why Christ died for sins once for all, the just one for the sake of the unjust, was that he might lead us to God. He was put to death insofar as fleshly existence goes, but was given life in the realm of the spirit. You are now saved by a baptismal bath, which corresponds to this exactly. This baptismal bath is no removal of physical stain, but the pledge to God of an irreproachable conscience through the resurrection of Jesus Christ. He went to heaven and is at God’s right hand, with angelic rulers and powers subjected to him.

The Word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God.

Take a few moments to reflect on the reading.

Responsory

I am ascending to my Father and your Father, alleluia, alleluia.
I am ascending to my Father and your Father, alleluia, alleluia.
To my God, and your God,
alleluia, alleluia.
Glory to the Father and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
I am ascending to my Father and your Father, alleluia, alleluia.

Canticle of Mary

The Magnificat (3)
Luke 1:46-55
Ant.
O, Victor King, Lord of power and might, today you have ascended in glory above the heavens. Do not leave us as orphans, but send us the Father’s promised gift, the Spirit of truth, alleluia.

While making the sign of the cross:

My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord,
My spirit sings to God, my saving God,
Who on this day, above all others, favored me
And raised me up, a light for all to see.

Through me, great deeds will God make manifest
And all the earth will come to call me blest.
Unbounded love and mercy sure will I proclaim
For all who know and praise God’s holy name.

God’s mighty arm, protector of the just,
Will guard the weak and raise them from the dust.
But mighty kings will swiftly fall from thrones corrupt.
The strong brought low, the lowly lifted up.

Soon will the poor and hungry of the earth
Be richly blest, be given greater worth.
And Israel, as once foretold to Abraham,
Will live in peace throughout the promised land.

All glory be to God, Creator blest,
To Jesus Christ, God’s love made manifest,
And to the Holy Spirit, gentle Comforter,
All glory be, both now and evermore.

Ant. O, Victor King, Lord of power and might, today you have ascended in glory above the heavens. Do not leave us as orphans, but send us the Father’s promised gift, the Spirit of truth, alleluia.

Intercessions

In joy of spirit, let us acclaim Christ, who sits at the right hand of the Father:
Come Holy Spirit, come Holy Spirit, come Holy Spirit, come to us.

King of glory, you took with you our frail humanity to be glorified in heaven; remove the sins of the world, and restore us to the innocence which was ours before the Fall.
Come Holy Spirit, come Holy Spirit, come Holy Spirit, come to us.

You came down from heaven on a pilgrimage of love; grant that we may take the same path to your presence.
Come Holy Spirit, come Holy Spirit, come Holy Spirit, come to us.

You promise to draw all things to yourself; do not allow any one of us to be separated from your body.
Come Holy Spirit, come Holy Spirit, come Holy Spirit, come to us.

Where you have gone before us in glory, may we follow you in mind and heart.
Come Holy Spirit, come Holy Spirit, come Holy Spirit, come to us.

For the sick who have asked us to accompany them with our prayers, that they may experience your merciful and healing touch today.

Please pray aloud the names of those who are sick or in need of healing.

Come Holy Spirit, come Holy Spirit, come Holy Spirit, come to us.

True God, we await your coming as our judge. May we see the vision of your glory and your mercy in company with all the dead.
Come Holy Spirit, come Holy Spirit, come Holy Spirit, come to us. (4)

The Lord’s Prayer

And now let us pray with confidence as Christ our Lord asked:
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come;
thy will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation
but deliver us from evil.

Closing Prayer

Father in heaven,
Our minds were prepared for
the coming of your kingdom
when you took Christ beyond our sight
so that we might seek him in his glory.
May we follow where he has led
and find our hope in his glory,
for he is Lord for ever and ever.
Amen.

Blessing

While making the sign of the cross:

May the Lord bless us,
protect us from all evil and
bring us to everlasting life.
Amen.

Reginia Caeli (5)

Reginia Caeli laetare, alleluia,
quia quem meruisti portare, alleluia,
ressurexit sicut dixit, alleluia;
ora pro nobis Deum, alleluia.

Our Lady of Mount Carmel,
Pray for us.
Sant’Angelo,
Pray for us.

Let us spend this evening in peace.
Thanks be to God.
