Call to Worship
While making the sign of the cross:
God, come to our assistance.
Lord, make haste to help us.
Glory to the Father and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning,
is now and will be forever. Amen. Alleluia!
Hymn
Phos Hilaron, “O Radiant Light” (1)
O radiant light,
O Sun divine
of God the Father’s deathless face,
O image of the light sublime,
That fills the heav’nly dwelling place.
O Son of God,
the source of life,
Praise is your due by night and day,
Our happy lips must raise the strain
of your esteemed and splendid name.
Lord, Jesus Christ
as daylight fades,
as shines the light of eventide,
We praise the Father with the Son,
the Spirit blest, and with them one.
PSALMODY
Psalm 141:1-9
Ant. O Lord, let my prayer rise before you like
incense, my hands like an evening offering.
O Lord, let my prayer rise before you like
incense, my hands like an evening offering.
Lord, I am calling: hasten to help me.
Listen to me as I cry to you.
Let my prayer rise before you like incense,
my hands like an evening offering.
O Lord, let my prayer rise before you like
incense, my hands like an evening offering.
Lord, set a guard at my mouth,
keep watch at the gate of my lips.
Let my heart not turn to things that are wrong,
to sharing the evil deeds done by the sinful.
No, I will never taste their delights.
O Lord, let my prayer rise before you like
incense, my hands like an evening offering.
The good may reprove me,
In kindness chastise me,
but the wicked shall never anoint my head.
Every day, I counter their malice with prayer.
O Lord, let my prayer rise before you like
incense, my hands like an evening offering.
To you, Lord my God, my eyes are turned:
In you I take refuge; do not forsake me.
Keep me safe from the traps they have set for me,
from the snares of those who do evil.
O Lord, let my prayer rise before you like
incense, my hands like an evening offering.
Praise to the Father, praise to the Son,
all praise to the life giving Spirit.
As it was, is now, and shall always be
for ages unending. Amen.
Ant. O Lord, let my prayer rise before you like
incense, my hands like an evening offering. (2)
Psalm Prayer
Lord,
From the rising of the sun to its setting,
your name is worthy of all praise.
Let our prayer come like incense before you.
May the lifting up of our hands
be as an evening sacrifice
acceptable to you,
Lord, our God.
Psalm 121
Ant. A bright cloud overshadowed them, and suddenly, a voice spoke from the cloud: This is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased; listen to him.
I lift up my eyes to the mountains;
from where shall come my help?
My help shall come from the Lord
who made heaven and earth.
May the Lord never allow you to stumble!
Let God sleep not, your guard
No, God sleeps not nor slumbers,
Israel’s guard.
The Lord is your guard and your shade;
at your right side God stands.
By day the sun shall not smite you
nor the moon in the night.
The Lord will guard you from evil,
and will guard your soul.
The Lord will guard your going and coming
both now and forever.
Glory to Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit:
as it was in the beginning,
is now and will be forever. Amen
Ant. A bright cloud overshadowed them, and suddenly, a voice spoke from the cloud: This is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased; listen to him.
Canticle
Timothy 3:16
Ant. As they came down from the mountain, Jesus commanded them: Tell no one of the vision until the Son of Man has risen from the dead.
Praise the Lord, all you nations.
Christ manifested in the flesh,
Christ justified in the Spirit.
Praise the Lord, all you nations.
Christ contemplated by the angels,
Christ proclaimed by the pagans.
Praise the Lord, all you nations.
Christ, who is believed in throughout the world,
Christ exalted in glory.
Praise the Lord, all you nations.
Glory to Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit:
as it was in the beginning,
is now and will be forever. Amen.
Ant. As they came down from the mountain, Jesus commanded them: Tell no one of the vision until the Son of Man has risen from the dead.
Reading
A Reading from the Letter of St. Paul to the Romans
(Romans 8:16-17)
The Spirit himself gives witness with our spirit that we are children of God. But if we are children, we are heirs as well: heirs of God, heirs with Christ, if only we suffer with him, so as to be glorified with him.
The Word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God.
Take a few moments to reflect on the reading.
Responsory
Beauty and wealth surround him, alleluia, alleluia.
Beauty and wealth surround him, alleluia, alleluia.
Richness and splendor adorn his holy place.
Alleluia, alleluia.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
Beauty and wealth surround him, alleluia, alleluia.
Gospel Canticle
Canticle of Mary
The Magnificat (3)
Luke 1:46-55
Ant. When they heard the voice from the cloud, the disciples fell on their faces, overcome with fear; Jesus came up to them, touched them, and said: Stand up. Do not be afraid.
While making the sign of the cross:
My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord,
My spirit sings to God, my saving God,
Who on this day, above all others, favored me
And raised me up, a light for all to see.
Through me, great deeds will God make manifest
And all the earth will come to call me blest.
Unbounded love and mercy sure will I proclaim
For all who know and praise God’s holy name.
God’s mighty arm, protector of the just,
Will guard the weak and raise them from the dust.
But mighty kings will swiftly fall from thrones corrupt.
The strong brought low, the lowly lifted up.
Soon will the poor and hungry of the earth
Be richly blest, be given greater worth.
And Israel, as once foretold to Abraham,
Will live in peace throughout the promised land.
All glory be to God, Creator blest,
To Jesus Christ, God’s love made manifest,
And to the Holy Spirit, gentle Comforter,
All glory be, both now and evermore.
Ant. When they heard the voice from the cloud, the disciples fell on their faces, overcome with fear; Jesus came up to them, touched them, and said: Stand up. Do not be afraid.
Intercessions
In the presence of his disciples, our Savior was wonderfully transfigured on Mount Tabor. Let us pray to him with confidence:
Christ Jesus, fill us with light and truth.
O Christ, before your passion and death, you revealed the resurrection to your disciples on Mount Tabor; we pray for your Church, which labors amid the cares and anxieties of this world, that in its trials, it may always be transfigured by the joy of your victory.
Christ Jesus, fill us with light and truth.
O Christ, you took Peter, James, and John and led them up a high mountain by themselves; we pray for our pope and bishops that they may inspire in your people the hope of being transfigured at the last day.
Christ Jesus, fill us with light and truth.
O Christ, on the mountaintop, you let the light of your face shine over Moses and Elijah. We ask your blessing upon the Jewish people; of old you called them to be your chosen nation.
Christ Jesus, fill us with light and truth.
O Christ, you gave light to the world when the glory of the Creator arose over you. We pray for people of good will, that they may walk in your light.
Christ Jesus, fill us with light and truth.
For the sick who have asked us to accompany them with our prayers, that they may experience your merciful and healing touch today.
Please pray aloud the names of those who are sick or in need of healing.
Christ Jesus, fill us with light and truth.
O Christ, you will reform our lowly body and make it like your glorious one; we pray for our brothers and sisters who have died that they may share in your glory for ever.
Christ Jesus, fill us with light and truth. (4)
The Lord’s Prayer
And now let us pray with confidence as Christ our Lord asked:
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come;
thy will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation
but deliver us from evil.
Closing Prayer
God, our father,
In the transfigured glory of Christ your Son,
you strengthen our faith
by confirming the witness of your prophets
and showing us the splendor
of your beloved sons and daughters.
As we listen to the voice of your Son,
help us to become heirs
to the eternal life with Him,
who lives and reigns with you
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God, for ever and ever.
Amen.
Blessing
While making the sign of the cross:
May the Lord bless us,
protect us from all evil and
bring us to everlasting life.
Amen.
Salve Regina (5)
Salve, Regina, Mater misericordiæ,
vita, dulcedo, et spes nostra, salve.
Ad te clamamus exsules filii Hevæ,
Ad te suspiramus, gementes et flentes
in hac lacrimarum valle.
Eia, ergo, advocata nostra, illos tuos
misericordes oculos ad nos converte;
Et Jesum, benedictum fructum ventris tui,
nobis post hoc exsilium ostende.
O clemens, O pia, O dulcis Virgo Maria.
Our Lady of Mount Carmel,
Pray for us.
Sant’Angelo,
Pray for us.
Let us spend this evening in peace.
Thanks be to God.
