Emmanuel (1)
Come, come Emmanuel!
Son of God appear.

Salvation is drawing near.
Salvation is drawing near.
O come, O come, Emmanuel,
And ransom captive Israel,
That mourns in lonely exile here
Until the Son of God appear.
Come, come Emmanuel!
Son of God appear!
Heaven and earth, rejoice!
Salvation is drawing near.
Salvation is drawing near.
O come, O Wisdom from on high,
Who ordered all things mightily;
To us the path of knowledge show,
And teach us in her ways to go.
Come, come Emmanuel!
Son of God appear!
Heaven and earth, rejoice!
Salvation is drawing near.
Salvation is drawing near.
Rejoice! Emmanuel
shall come to thee, O Israel.
Rejoice! Emmanuel

PSALMODY
Psalm 63
Ant. Zion is our mighty citadel, our saving Lord, its wall and its defense; throw open the gates, for our God is here among us, alleluia.
O God, you are my God, for you I long;
for you, my soul is thirsting.
My body pines for you
like a dry, weary land without water.
So I gaze on you in the sanctuary
to see your strength and your glory.
For your love is better than life,
my lips will speak your praise.
So I will bless you all my life;
in your name, I will lift up my hands.
My soul shall be filled as with a banquet;
my mouth shall praise you with joy.
On my bed, I remember you.
On you, I muse through the night,
for you have been my help;
in the shadow of your wings, I rejoice.
My soul clings to you;
your right hand holds me fast.
Glory to the Father and to the Son
and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning
is now and will be forever.
Amen.
Ant. Zion is our mighty citadel, our saving Lord, its wall and its defense; throw open the gates, for our God is here among us, alleluia.

Reading
A Reading from the Letter of St. Paul to the Romans
(Romans 13:11-12)
It is now the hour for you to wake from sleep, for our salvation is closer than when we first accepted the faith. The night is far spent; the day draws near. Let us cast off deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light. Let us live honorably as in daylight; not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual excess and lust, not in quarreling and jealousy. Rather, put on the Lord Jesus Christ and make no provision for the desires of the flesh.
The word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God.
Take a few moments to reflect on the reading.
Responsory
Christ, Son of the living God, have mercy on us.
Christ, Son of the living God, have mercy on us.
You are the one who is to come,
have mercy on us.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
Christ, Son of the living God, have mercy on us.
Gospel Canticle
Canticle of Zechariah
Luke 1:68-79
Ant. I am sending my angel before me to prepare the way for my coming.
While making the sign of the cross:
Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel;
who has come to his people and set them free.
Who has raised up for us a mighty savior,
born of the house of his servant David.
Through the holy prophets, God promised of old
to save us from our enemies,
from the hands of all who hate us.
God promised to show mercy to our ancestors
and to remember God’s holy covenant.
This was the oath God swore to our father Abraham:
to set us free from the hands of our enemies,
free to worship God without fear,
holy and righteous in God’s sight all the days of our life.
You, my child, shall be called the prophet of the Most High;
for you will go before the Lord to prepare his way,
to give his people knowledge of salvation
by the forgiveness of their sins.
In the tender compassion of our God
the dawn from on high shall break upon us,
to shine on those who dwell in darkness and the shadow of death,
and to guide our feet into the way of peace.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit:
as it was in the beginning, is now,
and will be for ever. Amen.
Ant. I am sending my angel before me to prepare the way for my coming.
Intercessions
To the Lord Jesus Christ, judge of the living and the dead, let us pray:
Come, O Lord, and set us free! Maranatha.
Lord Jesus, you came to save sinners; protect us in times of temptation.
Come, O Lord, and set us free! Maranatha.
You will come in glory to be our judge; show in us your power to save.
Come, O Lord, and set us free! Maranatha.
Help us to keep the precepts of your law with the strength of the Spirit, and to look forward in love to your coming.
Come, O Lord, and set us free! Maranatha.
You are praised throughout the ages; in your mercy, help us to live devoutly and temperately in this life, as we wait in joyful hope for the revelation of your glory.
Come, O Lord, and set us free! Maranatha.
For the sick who have asked us to accompany them with our prayers that they may experience your merciful and healing touch today.
Please pray aloud the names of those who are sick or in need of healing.
Come, O Lord, and set us free! Maranatha. (2)
The Lord’s Prayer
And now let us pray with confidence as Christ our Lord asked:
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come;
thy will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation
but deliver us from evil.
Closing Prayer
God in heaven,
The day draws near when the glory of your Son will make radiant the night of the waiting world. May the lure of greed not impede us from the joy which moves the hearts of those who seek him. May the darkness not blind us to the wisdom and vision which fills the minds of those who find him.
We ask this through Christ, Our Lord.
Amen.
Blessing
While making the sign of the cross:
May the Lord bless us, protect us from all evil, and bring us to everlasting life.
Amen.
